Charming still life with a vase of cut flowers by the acclaimed artist Tilly Moes (1899-1979). Oil on canvas with a good ornamental frame, recently cleaned and re-varnished.
Tilly Moes was the pseudonym for Sofia (Fia) Theordora van Driel, born in 1899 in Dusseldorf as daughter of Johannes Gerardus van Driel and Sophia Adriana van Lammeren. Until her marriage to the artist Nicolaas Bruijnesteijn, she lived with her parents in The Hague, where she attended the drawing academy. In her pre-marital period (until 1927) she painted "antique" still lifes: complicated dark-looking works with lots of fruit and flowers under the pseudonym "Tilly Moes". However, she also had an office job to really support herself.
